Greetings Men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
On January 9, we celebrate Founder’s Day. A glorious day indeed! The humming of the Hymn, the reciting of the Twelve Inch Rule, the reflection of our SIGMA experience and most importantly – reconnecting with the vision of our beloved Founders. Again, I ask for you to re-energize your “SIGMA Soul.” Psalms 107:7 states “And he led them forth by the right way…” This is true about Most Honorable Founding Father A. Langston Taylor.
BROTHER is title with the MOST responsibility in our fraternity. It is time to set our egos aside in a collective effort SIGMA forward. There is no shame in possessing positive PRIDE (Personal Responsibility In Daily Excellence) in your work. The future progress on the fraternity will required the collective commitment and support of the entire Fraternity. We must recommit ourselves to the communities we pledged to serve. We must support our chapters and brothers. We must support our elected and appointed officers. We must support each other and develop our most valued asset – the collegiate brothers. We must embrace and protect our history and the senior brothers.
Brothers, we are the lambs of SIGMA and we shall hunger nor thirst ANYMORE for SIGMA to move in a positive direction. The throne is the solid foundation of our principles, motto and national programs. Sigma’s programmatic thrust was effective in the past and can be effective today if we follow the blueprint provided. We all fall off when we place our faith in man. I urge you to put your faith on the solid foundation that was built in 1914. Brothers, it is truly an honor to be a part of our wondrous band. Please continue your work in the name SIGMA, as we continue to serve humanity. Please take the time to call your chapter officers or any elected and/or appointed officer to express gratitude for their thankless service to the Fraternity. Further, take the time to share your concerns and offer realistic solutions. Please take time to call and visit our senior brothers to let them know of their value to SIGMA. Thank them for blazing the trail for us to follow. We must continue the concept of “Each One, Reach One” and it will be done “One Brother, One Chapter” at a time. Be the change you wish to see happen. Brotherhood mandates that such events occur.
On behalf of our 33rd International President, The Honorable Jimmy Hammock, and the Eastern Region, I wish you a blessed and productive Happy Founders’ Day. Thank you in advance for your consideration and time. May blessings and grace continually be upon you and yours. PEACE!
Bro. Leonard Lockhart
Eastern Regional Director
