]]> Brothers and Chapters of the Eastern Region,

I bring you greetings on behalf of the Eastern Regional Board and all appointed officers. First, let us take a moment to extend congratulations to all of our graduates. The hard work and sacrifices you have made over the last several years is no small achievement. Along with your family and friends we are proud of you as you close this chapter of your life and move on to reach your next goal. Your service to the community and continued support of the Fraternity is invaluable. We look forward to your continued involvement in Sigma, and wish you all the best as you enter your chosen field or continue to grow in your current profession.

These are exciting times for both the Fraternity and the Eastern Region. In July we will convene in the City of Brotherly Love, with Sigma men from around the world, at the 2013 Conclave. This will provide an opportunity to showcase the exceptional service our chapters and brothers provide to the communities they serve, while also taking care of the business of Sigma.

The Conclave Regular Registration Rate deadline is fast approaching, You must complete the application online or have your registration postmarked no later than June 15, 2013. Anything received after that date will be processed at the On Site Registration Rate. We encourage you to register and join us in Philadelphia July 9—14, 2013. The Host committee has a full schedule of events and programs for all attendees. This conference promises to be an event you will not soon forget. It will serve as an unofficial kick off to the Centennial Celebration and preview of a number of programs which are scheduled to take place over the next year.

In closing, we are thankful for the support you continue to show this Board as we work to serve you. Again, we look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia. Conclave Philadelphia will be a chance for the Board to engage the membership in those conversations designed to move this Region and the Fraternity forward into the next century of Sigma. It is your hard work and commitment to service which makes our success possible.

Bro Occasio Gee, Regional Director of Publicity was called upon to defend not only Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity but the entire National Pan-Hellenic Council.  The city of Virginia Beach was met unprepared for an unofficial event that saw 40,000 visitors come to the beach.  Flyers for the weekend targeted college students and Greek lettered organizations.  With such a large group coming to the resort town there was also a large number of unruly individuals.  The result of the weekend was 148 arrests and 325 calls to emergency services.  A bigger concern was the three shootings and three stabbings on the Saturday night.  Media immediately put the black on the local black colleges of Hampton University and Norfolk State University.  They also pointed the finger at NPHC organizations though the police had not identified any of those arrested as be connected to any University or organization.  Bro Gee was adamant that not only were the organizations not involved in the event but in fact had their own event going on nearly 30 minutes from the oceanfront.  The following morning saw many members of the NPHC organizations participating in the March for Babies.
